WHAT WE STAND FOR
Being part of Europe means we are guaranteed rights such as maternity leave, holiday entitlement, and the right not to be discriminated against because of race, sexual orientation, or a disability. Without the EU, national governments would be less willing and less able to stand up for the rights we often take for granted.
A strong economy means more jobs, and being in Europe boosts funding for research in science, medicine, and renewable energy – brings opportunities for young people that we wouldn’t otherwise have. Voting to leave will weaken our economy, making it harder to get funding for study and research, start a career, or even get a mortgage.
Only by working together can the countries of Europe reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change. Europe enforces legally binding targets that stop individual countries pursuing self-interest over environmental responsibility. We don’t live in isolation and our actions affect the world.
Free movement allows us to visit, study, and work anywhere in Europe. Free movement benefits us culturally and economically, helping to rebalance our ageing population, and bringing skills, talent and diversity into the country. Universities and research in the UK would drastically suffer if free movement was restricted.
Working together, European countries can promote peace internationally. Conflicts abroad affect us at home, and we have to collaborate with our neighbours on international issues. Europe plays a key part in administering humanitarian aid and supporting refugees. We live in a global world, and our place in Europe gives us strength on international relations.
